An 11-year-old girl who went missing Friday night is Found dead in 24 South Parganas district of West Bengal. The accused arrested in the case admitted to murdering her but denied raping her, police sources said.
During interrogation, defendant Mostakin Sardar revealed that he had tried to rape the girl but killed her after she resisted. He then dumped her body in a nearby canal, police sources told India Today. A murder case has been registered and police are waiting for the victim’s autopsy report.
Sardar reportedly told police that he met the girl near the market around 7:30 pm on Friday as she was returning home from a tuition class. He offered to drop her off but instead took her to a secluded farmland and attempted to attack her.
When the girl resisted his attempts, Sardar suffocated her to death and threw her body into a nearby canal. He admitted killing the girl because he feared she would be caught if she was still alive.
After the murder, Sardar returned home, had dinner and went to bed. Police sources said he showed no signs of remorse after committing the crime.
The girl’s family reported her missing that night. Hours later, police identified Sardar through interviews with the victim’s classmates and arrested him. He had been trying to make friends with this girl for days; Give her ice cream and offer her a ridesources said.
Protests broke out in the area after the body was discovered, with locals accusing police of inaction. The girl’s family claimed she was raped before her body was found, and that police failed to respond promptly to their complaints.
Simmering anger erupted when a mob of hundreds burned down a local police post and threw rocks at officers. They also vandalized several vehicles parked outside the outpost.
Female protesters took to the streets armed with lathes, brooms and kitchen utensils. Police mobilized a large number of troops, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), and used tear gas and lathi bombs to disperse the rioters.
The incident triggered a political controversy, with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party condemning the Trinamool Congress government’s failures on women’s safety.
