Against UP polls 2022, Aazad Samaj party member now linked to car theft gang

Mohammad Anas alias Haji to contest 2022 Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha polls, anti-auto theft squad (AATS) busted in south-west Delhi One theft ring after another, he was revealed to be a member of a car theft ring.

Mohammad Anas is contesting from the Meerut Kittor assembly seat in 2022 for the Chandrashekhar Azad-led Aazad Samaj Party (ASP).

Mohammad Anas was one of six gang members arrested by AATS. Police said he used to buy stolen vehicles from Delhi and sell them to gang leader Guddu for twice the price.

After an operation lasting 15 days, the police recovered five stolen luxury vehicles – a Toyota Fortuner, a Swift Dzire and three Maruti Brezza SUVs.

The gang developed a special app to communicate with its members and connect with each other through the app. Police said around 30 cars were stolen in Delhi in the past two months.

The arrested gang members revealed during interrogation that after stealing luxury cars from Delhi, they would enter into agreements to sell them and that Mohammad Anas would often come to Delhi to pick up the cars.

In the 2022 UP elections, Anas polled a total of 870 votes from Kithore assembly constituency, in which Kushal Pal Mavi of the Bhaujan Samaj Party won 31,213 votes.

The AATS team visited a number of crime scenes, collected CCTV footage and analyzed it. The investigative team gathered some important and critical information through technical sources.

Apart from Anas, the three accused were identified as Pawan alias Pannu, Mukim alias Muki and Mohammad Fariyad alias Fari. Pannu and Farri were previously involved in 12 car thefts.
