A fast-track court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly has sentenced five relatives, including her father, to life imprisonment for the murder of a 19-year-old daughter. A woman falls in love with a young man, but her family forces her to marry another young man.

According to police, the deceased’s name was Mooney. She fell in love with a man from the same village. Despite this, Munni was forced to marry Devendra on April 22, 2023.

Advocate District and Government (ADGC) Harendra Singh Rathore said tensions increased after Munni got married as it led to direct conflict with her in-laws, the news agency reported.

Rathod said that on the second day of Munni’s marriage, her father Totalam and his relatives brought her back from her in-laws’ house and threw acid on her. He told that Munni died during treatment.

In this case, on April 25, 2023, Fatehganj West police station registered a case against Totaram and his associates on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code. Rathod said the prosecution presented 17 witnesses during the trial and the court found the defendant guilty.

“Special Judge (Fast Track Court) Ashok Kumar Yadav on Saturday sentenced the accused Totaram, Dinesh, Chhedalal, Pappu and Khubkaran alias Dodi to life imprisonment and fined them Rs 40,000 each,” ADGC said.
