Sources in the federal home ministry added that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) had also identified as many as 15 to 20 rally participants who allegedly raised the controversial slogans.
A major controversy erupted after a video went viral on social media in which some unidentified people raised slogans of “Kashmir freedom”.
After the video went viral, Kolkata police registered a case under Articles 152 (relating to acts threatening the sovereignty, unity or integrity of India) and 285 (relating to safety of persons in public places such as public roads) of the Indian Constitution. Bharatiya Isanhita (BNS).
The rally was organized in Kolkata’s Jadavpur area to demand justice for a trainee doctor who was raped and murdered on August 9. The incident triggered a wave of protests by healthcare professionals across India, demanding workplace safety guidelines.
According to sources, the organizers of the rally may also be summoned by the Kolkata police.
West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress condemned the video, saying Kashmir was an internal part of India.
