Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress chief Mallikarjun Haji on Thursday expressed condolences over the death of industrialist Ratan Tata.
The 86-year-old veteran industrialist passed away at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday night.
Paying tribute to the business magnate in a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “Ratan Tata was a visionary. He left a lasting mark in both business and philanthropy. My condolences to his family and the Tata community.”
Haq said in a post on X that India has lost a “priceless son” with Tata’s death.
“With the passing away of Shri Ratan Naval Tata, we have lost one of India’s priceless sons. A distinguished philanthropist, Tata’s commitment to India’s inclusive growth and development remained paramount, he was a man of clear integrity and Synonymous with ethical leadership.”
“He was an inspiration and icon to millions and contributed immensely to nation-building. We express our condolences to his loved ones and admirers,” the Congress chief added.
The Indian National Congress said in a post on A titan of Indian industry and a philanthropist who shaped India’s corporate landscape, his integrity and compassion will continue to inspire generations of businesses, entrepreneurs and Indians. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and well-wishers.”
Born in Bombay on December 28, 1937, Tata is chairman of the Ratan Tata Trust and the Dorabji Tata Trust, the largest private sector-driven charitable trusts in India. From 1991 to his retirement in 2012, he served as Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group.
In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian award. (ANI)
