Court stays probe in Nirmala Sitharaman electoral bonds case

The Karnataka High Court has stayed the probe against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others over alleged irregularities related to the now-abandoned electoral bonds scheme.

A single bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna held that under Section 286 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which deals with extortion, certain key elements including direct threat and complaint from the affected person are required.

The next hearing is scheduled for October 22.
