Delhi's air, water is bad, CM Atishi explains why Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are responsible

Delhi Chief Minister Atish and former minister Satyendar Jain took aim at the BJP while discussing Delhi’s growing air and water pollution problem. Addressing a press conference, Atish said that besides air pollution in Delhi, water pollution in Yamuna was also increasing. The biggest reason for this is the dirty politics of the BJP. CM Atishi said that the main reason for the increase in pollution in Delhi was stubble burning, but after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, the incidents of stubble burning reduced by 50%.

The chief minister claimed that the BJP governments in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have not taken any concrete steps to stop stubble burning.

Other states responsible for Delhi pollution

Citing the example of Anand Vihar ISBT, he said Delhi is operating CNG and electric buses. And diesel buses are coming from other states, so pollution is increasing. He also blamed brick kilns and thermal power plants in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for growing pollution.

Talking about the growing problem of foam and pollution in Yamuna, Atish said that 165 MGD of Haryana industrial waste and 55 MGD of Uttar Pradesh industrial waste are discharged into Yamuna every day, leading to increased water pollution. The Delhi government is constantly working to resolve the issue, he said, adding that if the BJP does not take strict measures, then we will approach the Supreme Court if necessary.

‘BJP will not allow clean Yamuna’

AAP leader Satyendar Jain also targeted the BJP at a press conference. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party government has started a large-scale clean-up drive in the Yamuna river. He accused the BJP of not wanting Yamuna to be purged as it affected their political interests. He said that about 200 MGD of Haryana’s industrial wastewater is pumped through Badshahpur drain. When we raise our voices, we are arrested.

He further said that the people from the PPP came here only to take pictures. The bubble did not form like in Yamuna where the Uttar Pradesh government came under fire against Kalindi Kunj, the bubble formed due to the closing of gates. Open all the doors now and the bubble will disappear, he said. He also said pollution in Benares is worse than in Delhi. All thermal power plants in Delhi have been shut down, but NCR thermal power plants are still functioning and 3,000 brick kilns are still functioning. As a result, pollution is getting worse.
