Government aims to improve sports facilities: Satish Sharma

Srinagar, November 9: Youth Services and Sports Minister Satish Sharma along with MLA Khanyar, Ali Muhammad Sagar today visited Zaznar Stadium Brane-Nishat and assessed the sports-related infrastructural needs of the area.

The minister was informed of several issues, including leveling the sports fields, building pavilions, restrooms and fencing.

In his speech, the minister said that the Umar-led government is keen on revitalizing and upgrading sports infrastructure. He maintained that “the current effort is to create a comfortable and conducive environment for athletes to excel in various sports”.

“Sports has the potential and scope to save youth from falling into drugs and other social ills by channeling their energy in the right direction. In addition to ensuring the development of lesser-known sports programs at UT that have potential, we Efforts are being made to provide adequate sports infrastructure,” the minister maintained.

He said the government is focusing on tapping young talent because sports, in addition to improving health, is also expected to promote positive social change.

He stressed that the aim of providing world-class facilities to athletes is to enable the best athletes to represent J&K in various events while ensuring that the government provides all possible help in this regard.

The Minister directed the Department of Youth Services and Sports on the spot to provide rollers on the ground by this Monday.

The minister also met with numerous delegations who apprised him of issues related to transport facilities, food supply, lake cleaning, upgrading of sports amnesty and sought rectifications.

On the occasion, the minister announced that bus service from Ishber Nishat to Hazratbal via Foreshore Road will be launched from tomorrow.
MLA Khanyar hopes that the department assigned to Satish Sharma will see huge development in the area.

The minister was accompanied by Director FCS&CA, Secretary Sports Commission, CEO JKEDA and senior officials of Transport, LCMA, YS&A.
