Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday announced that his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) assembly election campaign will be called off on Sunday, condemning Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah killed. She claimed that her party stood with the people of Lebanon and Gaza.

She tweeted: “Cancelling tomorrow’s campaign in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon and Gaza, especially Hassan Nazarullah. Our solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese people in this moment of great sadness and exemplary resistance Stand together.”

64-year-old leader of Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah Killed in Israeli attack on organization headquarters Friday in Beirut. Both Israel and Hezbollah confirmed the death, dealing a major blow to the group engaged in armed conflict with Israel.

Meanwhile, a protest march was held in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam against the killing of Nasrallah. Large numbers of people, including women and children, took to the streets carrying portraits of the Hezbollah leader.

Over the past few days, Israel has carried out a series of air strikes in Lebanon, killing more than 800 people and displacing many others. The escalation came after Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel, detonating thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by the group. Hezbollah has been targeting Israel since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Israeli forces also continue to launch offensives in Gaza and other Palestinian areas.
