Is Bhagwat Endorsing the Induction of Corrupt Leaders?

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has recently criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for bringing in leaders accused of corruption into their ranks. During a speech at the Delhi Assembly, he raised serious questions about the integrity of the BJP and its leadership, particularly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Kejriwal’s main argument revolves around the BJP’s alleged hypocrisy regarding corruption. He pointed out instances where leaders accused of serious corruption were later welcomed into the BJP. For example, he referred to a case involving Ajit Pawar, who was publicly called corrupt by Modi but was invited to join the BJP shortly after. Kejriwal questioned Bhagwat, asking if he was comfortable with such actions that seemingly contradict the BJP’s stance on corruption.

In his address, he stated, “Is Mohan Bhagwat satisfied with Modiji’s decision to induct the most corrupt leaders into the BJP by intimidating them through the ED and CBI?” This statement highlights his belief that the BJP is using government agencies to manipulate political situations and intimidate opposition parties.

Kejriwal also sent a letter to Bhagwat containing five critical questions about the BJP’s practices. He asked whether the RSS, which is considered the ideological parent of the BJP, has ever intervened to prevent Modi from making questionable decisions. He emphasized that it is the RSS’s responsibility to ensure that the BJP remains true to its values and does not stray into unethical practices.

Among his questions, he pointed out a contradiction regarding a retirement policy for senior leaders over 75 years old, questioning why this rule appears not to apply to Modi himself. Kejriwal remarked on how this inconsistency raises concerns about fairness within the party.

Kejriwal expressed his worry that if such practices continue, they could threaten India’s democracy. He accused the BJP of using intimidation tactics against opposition parties through agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which he believes undermines ethical governance.

He further criticized the role of RSS members in this political landscape, suggesting that their responsibilities have diminished to merely facilitating the entry of corrupt leaders into the party. “How can RSS members accept that? Their job is now reduced to laying carpet for leaders who join BJP,” he said.

This criticism comes at a time when Kejriwal himself is navigating legal challenges related to allegations of irregularities in Delhi’s Excise Policy. Despite these challenges, he remains vocal about his concerns regarding corruption and governance in India.

In summary, Arvind Kejriwal’s recent remarks reflect a strong stance against what he perceives as corruption within the BJP and a call for accountability from its leadership. His questions directed at Mohan Bhagwat aim to provoke thought about the ethical direction of Indian politics as shaped by major political parties like the BJP.
