J&K Police busts inter-state drug gang, arrests 3 persons

Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag police arrested three people and busted an inter-state drug trafficking gang, police said on Saturday.

According to official news, police seized 413 bottles of codeine phosphate (NRX), branded as Codril-T, hidden in car door panels.

The arrested accused were identified as Monty Singh from Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh, Ashish Bhardwaj and Rahul from Chhatarpur in New Delhi.

The consignment was reportedly intended to be transported in Sopore and Srinagar, police said. The vehicle carrying the consignment was intercepted at Doonipora Sangam.

According to police, multiple checkpoints have been set up along the Delhi-Srinagar route to act on credible intelligence regarding the transportation of narcotic drugs along the route.

After further investigation, multiple raids were carried out and a local smuggler from Sopore was detained for questioning. Police said that in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), New Delhi, a raid was conducted at a warehouse in Noida’s Sector 135 and a large quantity of codeine was seized there.

They added that Sachin Rana and Arun Rana from Faridabad are the key figures behind the gang and have been identified and operations to arrest them are on.
