J&K Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Kashmir University Law School organized an important awareness and interaction program at Kashmir University Gandhi Bhawan on Wednesday.
The event was chaired by Atul Sreedharan, Judge of J&K and Ladakh High Court and Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority.
Today’s event is the first formal program chaired by Justice Sridharan after his appointment as Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority, setting the stage for future initiatives aimed at improving legal literacy and access to justice across the Union Territory precedent.
Upon arrival, Justice Sreedharan, who was accompanied by Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority and Abdul Bari, Joint Registrar, J&K and Ladakh High Court, was greeted by Principal Nilofar Professors Nilofar Khan and Mohammad Hussain warmly received the Dean and Dean of the Law School of Kashmir University and other faculty members.
The event kicked off with a performance by Tarana University, followed by the NALSA theme song.
Justice Sridharan addressed the law students and faculty of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Law and shared insights into the role of judges and legal practitioners. “As judges, we judge the case before us, not the people involved, although the impact of our decisions affects people deeply,” he said. He encouraged students to broaden their horizons by reading books other than legal texts , emphasizing that such reading can greatly improve their professional skills.
Elaborating on this point, Justice Sridharan said, “A book on corporate matters may not seem relevant to a lawyer on the criminal side, but it can provide immense help.”
Justice Sridharan also emphasized the importance of reading biographies of legal stalwarts and noted that such reading provides valuable lessons to aspiring lawyers. He further emphasized that the qualities necessary to succeed in the legal profession include hard work and commitment to the cases brought before him by litigants. He further said that a lawyer should have the heart of a tiger to pursue his client’s case bravely and fearlessly while treating the court fairly. Respecting seniors and learning courtroom skills from them are two qualities of a lawyer and keys to success in the field, he added. ”
In his speech, Professor Nilofar Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University, expressed his profound gratitude to Justice Sridharan for sparing his precious time to mentor the budding law students. She said on the occasion that the alumni of the Law Department of Kashmir University have not only left an indelible mark in J&K and beyond but also across the globe.
She also highlighted the potential role that law students can play in the governance of the country, as well as the critical role of the judiciary in ensuring social justice and access to justice. She urged law students to prepare for future challenges, especially the impact of technology on the legal system, advising them to be knowledgeable, willing to learn and compassionate.
In his welcome address, Professor Mohammad Hussain, Dean and Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Kashmir, highlighted the collaborative efforts between University of Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JKSLA).
He emphasized the critical role of law school freshmen in shaping the future of the legal profession, noting that hard work, determination and perseverance are key ingredients for success. However, he stressed that these qualities must be accompanied by a fair code of discipline and a commitment to punctuality to truly excel in a career.

Finally, students from the Law School Drama Club performed a skit about free legal aid, creatively demonstrating the importance of legal aid in bringing justice to marginalized groups and highlighting how legal aid can transform those who cannot afford it. human life. it.

On the occasion, a plantation drive was also conducted where the chief guests and dignitaries planted different varieties of trees on the front lawn of the Faculty of Law, reflecting the institution’s commitment towards environmental sustainability.
This awareness-cum-interaction program is a signature event symbolizing the ongoing partnership between Kashmir University and J&K Legal Services Authority in promoting legal education and access to justice across the region.
