In a tragic case of hospital negligence, a woman in Karnataka claims she was told she had given birth to a girl, but was instead handed the body of a baby boy.
The incident was reported from the Koppal District Women and Children’s Hospital. The woman, named Gauri, claims she was wrongly told the sex of her newborn, leading to devastating confusion.
Gao Li was admitted to the hospital on September 23 and gave birth in the early morning of September 25. Due to the low weight of the baby, the newborn was immediately transferred to the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for monitoring. Gauri said medical staff initially told her she had given birth to a girl.
However, on October 2, hospital staff received shocking news: the baby had died.
When Gao Li and her family arrived to see the child, they were surprised to find that the dead baby was a boy, not the girl they were expecting.
“We were told we were having a girl, but now they have handed us a dead boy. We wanted our baby back,” Gauri said sadly.
Hospital authorities acknowledged the possibility of an error and said the mix-up may have occurred while the newborn was being transferred between departments. They have assured the family that a full investigation will be carried out.
