SMC commissioner reviews snow prevention arrangements, outlines detailed strategy

Srinagar, November 9: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmed reviewed the snow removal and dehydration preparedness of Srinagar city during a comprehensive meeting held at the SMC central office in Karan Nagar on Saturday.

The meeting focused on formulating a strategic plan to deploy personnel and machinery to carry out snow removal and drainage operations in all municipal areas to ensure residents are not inconvenienced during the winter.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of prioritizing snow removal and drainage operations in key areas and on roads leading to important destinations including hospitals, ration depots, educational institutions and government offices.

To further streamline snow management, Dr Owais directed the Snow Monitoring Committee and 24×7 Control Room to be fully prepared for immediate response and coordination of snow removal efforts. “The 24×7 control room must be fully responsive to public demands to facilitate timely and effective snow removal,” the Commissioner stressed.

Regarding dewatering operations, the Commissioner directed that all permanent dewatering stations in the city be fully operational.

In addition, Dr. Owais stressed the importance of using mobile pumps to promptly address water logging problems in various areas. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that Srinagar remains accessible and resilient even during adverse weather conditions.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including Joint Commissioner, Executive Engineer, Chief Health Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Warehouse Officer and other SMC staff.
