The intensive care unit (ICU) of the government-run Seth Govind Das Victoria District Hospital in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has been in critical condition since the past few months.
Since the ICU’s air conditioner has been out of commission for the past four months, patients have been forced to bring their own fans.
When India Today TV brought the issue to the attention of state health department officials, they said the reason behind it was lack of budget.
However, 20 days have passed, and the situation in the ICU is still the same. Some people bring table fans to critical places like the ICU.
North Central Parliamentary Constituency MP Abhilash Pandey recently took stock of the situation at Victoria Hospital. He assured patients that steps would be taken to resolve the issue as soon as possible and those found guilty of dysfunction in the ICU would be punished.
Dr Manish Mishra, civil surgeon at the hospital, said similar situations existed in hospitals in other districts, including Mandera and Dindori.
