Two men on bikes allegedly opened fire on a 30-year-old BJP worker outside a polling station in Faridabad on October 5, Haryana polling day, leaving him hospitalized with injuries to his waist, police said .

They said the incident took place on Saturday when Rajneesh, who has also been associated with the National Awami League for the past 14 years, was sitting on a table near Nidhi Public School. People are waiting to vote.

The two attackers, whose faces were covered with ‘gamchha’ and whose motorcycle had no number plate, had a brief conversation with Rajneesh before shooting at him.

The PPP worker was shot in the waist and was admitted to the hospital, police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Kundu, who visited the private hospital, said he learned that the condition of the victim was stable. He said police were investigating the matter.

Rajneesh is a resident of Bharat Colony in Faridabad Assembly constituency and his house is located on 33ft Road.

After learning about the incident, Vipul Goyal, a former cabinet minister from Faridabad Assembly seat and the BJP candidate, went to the hospital to inquire about Rajneesh’s health.

He said action should be taken against those involved. He said whether the victim was a BJP worker or a member of any other political party, the law would provide equal protection to everyone.

Eyewitness Komal Pandit said people were standing outside Nidhi Public School when the two men came on a motorcycle.

He said he couldn’t see who fired the shot. He said Rajneesh was involved in some “minor incident” earlier in the day.
