Uttar Pradesh: Baby dies in Mainpuri, nurse demands Rs 5,100 tip to hand baby over to family

A family in Uttar Pradesh’s Maipuri has claimed that their newborn baby died after a nurse refused to hand over the baby. ‘negative’ (usual tip) Done.

On September 18, Sujeet, a resident of Onha Patara village in Kurra district, took his pregnant wife Sanjali to Mainpuri Karhal Community Health Center (CHC).

Sanjali gave birth to a baby boy in the early hours of September 19. According to her family members, nurse Jyoti Bhadauria allegedly demanded Rs 5,100 as tip.

When the family was unable to pay, the nurse allegedly placed the newborn on a table in the delivery room and refused to hand over the baby until the fee was paid.

Unable to raise money immediately, the family was forced to leave the baby alone on a table for about 40 minutes.

Surjit eventually borrowed the money from his brother and the nurse was paid. By this time, the baby’s condition had deteriorated, and after the family notified staff, the newborn was rushed to Sefa’i Medical College. However, the baby died.

After the incident, Surjit filed a complaint accusing the hospital staff of negligence.

The matter was informed to higher authorities and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak took notice of the incident.

District Magistrate Anjani Kumar ordered a detailed inquiry and directed the Mainpuri Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to constitute a three-member investigation team.

Meanwhile, Jyoti was immediately removed from his post pending an investigation.

An official said: “We are aware of the matter. A newborn died due to the inhumane behavior of a nurse. The authorities are committed to ensuring justice for the family and those responsible will face legal action.”
