A fire broke out at the Tata iPhone factory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday morning. Around 5.30am, a fire broke out in the company’s mobile phone accessories spray painting workshop.
Several workers were on duty at the factory when the fire broke out. However, seven fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze and evacuate all employees at the site.
At the time of the incident, about 1,500 workers were on duty in the first shift. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and there were no casualties in the incident.
Multiple videos have surfaced online showing thick smoke billowing from manufacturing plants.
A Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) spokesperson said in a statement: “An unfortunate fire incident occurred at our facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Our emergency response plans ensured the safety of all employees. The cause of the fire is under investigation and we will take necessary actions to safeguard the interests of our employees and other stakeholders.”
A senior police officer said three workers who developed respiratory problems were taken to hospital for treatment and were said to be in stable condition. The official said that more than 100 police officers have been deployed to the affected areas to provide assistance.
